POSITION TITLE: Cost Accountant
REPORTING TO: Senior FP&A Manager
LOCATION: Benton Harbor, MI

SCOPE OF ROLE:
The Cost Accountant will manage the day-to-day cost accounting functions, providing overall costs, and manufacturing support to improve operational performance. This position is also responsible for month-end activities, including account reconciliations and financial reporting. In addition, the Cost Accountant will be responsible for the standard cost system and process to set annual standard rates for a moderately to highly complex manufacturing company.
Monitor, review and analyze daily manufacturing activities and participate in daily management discussions
Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production cost
Calculate labor and overhead rates and perform periodic review
Implement process to monitor performance indicators, highlighting trends and analyzing causes of unexpected variances
Complete product costing of materials, review for variances and correct/communicate results to management
Participate in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing process ensuring timely, accurate results
Lead annual physical inventory and cost roll process
Implement a bill of material audit process for high moving parts
Assist operations to achieve and maintain 99% accuracy in cycle count program
Participate in preparation of quarterly forecasts and annual operating plan
Evaluate policies and procedures, ensure appropriate documentation, update as required
Undertake special projects and analysis assigned by plant management and finance
Assist with internal and external financial and SOX audits
Work effectively with team members at all levels of the company in a positive, professional manner
MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE :
Implement sustainable weekly/monthly processes within the first 6 months of starting the position to better notify management of variances.
Maintain 99% accuracy in cycle count process jointly with Operations.
Timely update costs in JDE and complete CIPs within 48 hours of request.
Coordinate and improve physical inventory and cost roll processes currently in place.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS OR EQUIVALENCIES:
Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or a similar discipline.
2-3 years in a cost accounting background working in a manufacturing environment desirable
Strong understanding of Cost Accounting principles and methodologies desirable
Advanced computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Excel and Power BI; JD Edwards (or similar ERP system) desirable
Highest standards for accuracy and precision
Organized, flexible and easily adaptable to changing conditions
Articulates with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to think creatively, highly driven, and self-motivated
Ability to prioritize tasks and projects while being able to multi-task when necessary
High energy, high ownership of work product and commitment to driving results
