The Cost Accountant will assist and support the BU finance team with projects and recurring duties to develop business unit level cost accounting, plant controllership, and reporting acumen. This role will provide exposure to all major aspects of Business Unit level financial and accounting responsibilities. It is expected that the candidate will successfully partner with the financial staff and the manufacturing team in these duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

POSITION FOCUS:

COST ACCOUNTING / INVENTORY REPORTING

  • Daily plant production/cost metrics, variance monitoring, and orders/sales reporting

  • Assist with financial results and analysis for the manufacturing and operations team (productivity decks)

  • Support excess & obsolete inventory calculation, reconciliation, and presentation

  • Support month-end closing duties for inventory and respective inventory reserves/accruals (including receipt cut off and shipment “walk the dock” processes)

  • Assist with financial statements and analysis for the operations and supply chain team.

  • Participate in physical inventory, from preparation to execution, including variance investigations.

  • Participate in cycle counting process

  • Participate in annual cost roll, especially labor/overhead study

GENERAL ACCOUNTING AND BUSINESS UNIT REPORTING

  • Writing and posting monthly journal entries

  • Take ownership/responsibility for preparing specific account reconciliations, documenting with detailed backup

  • Participate in and understand all major requirements of close and forecast cycle (N1, N2, N3, Hyperion entries, etc.)

  • Support quarterly balance sheet review

  • Support and participate in putting together monthly DMI (direct material inflation) calculation

  • Revenue recognition controls and procedures

  • Support development of monthly forecast, including interactions with sales team and cost center budget owners.

  • Other duties as needed or assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS OR EQUIVALENCIES:

  • 3+ years of relevant experience preferably within a manufacturing environment

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent experience in cost accounting

  • Experience with or knowledge of JD Edwards
